Minkitty Cattery is proud to announce the birth of  Desiree's kittens on November 26th, 2006.
Desiree - Expecting Mom
Desiree -  two weeks before her due date. This will be Desiree's first litter.
Desiree and the new borns
Desiree and her two kittens about one hour after birth.  The lighter one is a boy and the darker one is a girl.
Desiree's kittens at 4 days old
Kittens at 4 days old.  Notice how developed the hind legs have become.

During the first couple weeks the kittens should be doing one of two things, eating or sleeping.
If they are crying, something is wrong.  It is important that the kittens be kept warm and that the mother is kept stress free.
Desiree is turning out to be an excellent mom.
Kittens at 6 days old

Kittens at 6 days old.  They have doubled their weight since birth.  They now respond positively to my touch and show that they enjoy being petted.
Kittens at 9 days old

Kittens at 9 days old.  The kittens opened their eyes on day 9.  Tonk kittens usually open their eyes between 7-10 days (sometimes earlier).

Gwen sent me this picture of her Tonk Megan that she got from Bonnie Smith looking at my kitten page.

Short clip
If you have "dial up" you might not want to run this clip.  It takes a while to load.
The kitten you hear is Rosie.  She hears me and wants in the bedroom.
Desiree's Kittens at 17 days

Desiree's kittens at 17 days.  This is mom's first litter.  Since she has plenty of milk and there are only two kittens, the kits are fat and lazy.

Kittens's first vet visitOn Friday, December 29th the kittens went to the vet for their first check up.  This is a picture of Dr. Beth taking a picture of the kittens for their records.  Kellie, a vet tech,  is holding the kittens.  They got a clean bill and did well.
At 4 weeks the kittens were put in the 'training' pen in the kitten room. The pen is 4'x4'x3' and open at the top so that mom can jump in and out.   The training pen is where they are weaned and where they learn to use the litter box.  Once the box is mastered, they get to romp the kitten room which is set up with kitten sized climbing trees.

At 5 1/2 weeks I let the kittens out of the pen and they have the run of the kitten room with mom.
Kittens are healthy and happy and have nice clear have clear coats with no stripes (tabby markings).

I get e-mails and phone calls from people who say that they have heard that Tonkinese are hypo-allergenic.
Not True.  Here are a couple of  links that can explain it a whole lot better than me.

Platinum Point Boy
Platinum Point boy at 10 weeks old.  You can't see it here but he has Paul Newman blue eyes.  Moma's in the background.
Champagne Solid Girl
Champagne Solid girl at 10 weeks.  Her coat is  going to develop into a rich deep cherry wood color.  Since she is a solid, she will have beautiful green eyes.

Desiree's Champagne Solid girl at 4 months

Desiree's Champagne Solid girl is quite a talker.  She has beautiful green eyes.

Claudia and the girls

Claudia and her girls, one of which has four legs.  This is the Champagne Solid kitten's new family.  Her new name is Hazelnut (Hazel for short) because her coat will turn into a beautiful rich brown.
Minkitty's Hazelnut is going home

Hazel is going home with her new family.  This is a beautifully sad time for me.  I'm happy, I'm proud, I'm sad.
Hazel has been a bit shy around her two legged sisters but I know the she is going to love her new family and they will love her.  Look for some pictures of them on my Photo Album page.

E-mail from Claudia
Hello!

I wanted to let you know that Hazelnut has quickly adapted to her new family, sleeping on Sarah's bed at night (the big girl), and sitting on my lap whenever possible during the day.  She loves to play with us, and is always interested in what we are doing.  She has also figured out how to turn off my computer, somehow.

Thanks for the lovely kitten!  She is doing great and we are very much in love with her.

Sincerely,
Claudia  & family

In case anyone is wondering, I decided to keep the platinum point boy.  I named him Dylan.
If you see me at a show this summer and fall, be sure to stop by and meet him.  .

Minkitty Cattery,  located in a western suburb of Cleveland on America's beautiful North Coast,  is a small in home cattery raising only Tonkinese. Minkitty's kittens are raised as a work of love and a hobby and not as a business.

Our kittens are registered with CFA, which is the world's largest registry and 100 years old in 2006.

We only breed Tonkinese to Tonkinese and kittens come with an 6 generation CFA Tonkinese pedigree.  Our blood lines are North American.  The traditional color/pattern Tonkinese was established in the US and Canada and the largest gene pool for the traditional color/patterns exists right here in North America. Because of the large gene pool these cats tend to be rather healthy with no genetic problems.

There is no lack of interest in a CFA registered Tonkinese.  As a result, I do not find any reason to mix two breeds to create a "designer breed"  to generate a "marketing" interest which results in nothing more than a non-registered mix bred cat.

We never sell our kittens younger that 12 weeks and usually wait until 14-16 weeks.  This is the recommendation of just about every registry, the Winn Foundation and various feline health organizations.

We show our Tonkinese regularly.  As a result, all kittens have proper eye color, proper ear set, and a clear coat without tabby markings (barring or stripping along the legs or tail).  The colors are correct for the color/pattens and the kittens are bred to CFA standard.

We don't ship and we prefer to meet the prospective family prior to commitment.  I ask that you visit my home/cattery when I have kittens available for selection.   At that time you can pick your kitten and put down a deposit. Once the kittens are spayed or neutered, you can come back and pick up the kitten (or we can meet half way).  If you are interested in a kitten from my next litter, please e-mail me and tell me a little about yourself.
